This weekend took us on a long overdue road trip in our own back yard, after a few weeks hiatus the latest words that were tripping off of Jordy’s tongue were “Treasure Mountain”. It seemed to follow him in the forums, in his dreams and he knew the trek was necessary soon before the snows of winter snuck in.

Jason Grafstrom’s hobby is so addictive that he has amassed the 12th most “finds” of anyone in B.C.

Paul Laviolette enjoys it so much that he often ventures into the wilderness on his ATV in search of a new discovery.

The two are among those in the Fraser Valley who are aficionados of the modern-day form of treasure hunting known as geocaching.

The growing pastime involves participants using a global positioning system (GPS) and other navigational techniques to track down hidden containers – known as geocaches or, simply, caches – around the world.

Co-ordinates for the geocaches are posted on websites.

A cache is usually a waterproof container, such as an ammo can, in which a small trinket or special coin is typically stored, along with a logbook for finders to sign.

1000th Geocache Found

I knew it was coming and was starting to wonder what I was going to do to celebrate the milestone. Perhaps I could submit an event I thought.  A hiking event to some cache out in the wilderness for all to enjoy. One that I could get all my friends together and do so I picked out the spot and created the cache page to be submitted  and was all ready to go. Well most of the responders said they couldn’t make it or that they didn’t like the hike idea or the pay parking in the park. Basically it was looking like a no go on the event.  So now what?

Fantasy & Fire

Fantasy & Fire III - By Scruffster

We all know to what extent Scruffster will go to host the perfect event that will stay in a memory.  Think back to the Tailspin Rally II - he even arranged for Snow that fateful April day.

Who would have guessed what strings he could pull to make this year's Fantasy & Fire THE event of the year.  The lightening show that he pulled off would beat out even the annual fireworks competition.  We have heard so many rave comments about that night!

DisneygirlThis is How We Celebrate!

An excerpt from DisneyGirl's Blog

About 3 months before Tony's 50th birthday I asked him if he wanted to do anything special to celebrate. I already knew that a party was out of the question (I tried that for his 30th.... it wasn't pretty) and so I suggested maybe a trip somewhere special. Cancun? Hawaii maybe? He said, "I just want to go fishing." (deep sigh...) "OK, it's your birthday."

As our trip got closer I realized that we were going to reach another milestone while were away. I was going to find my 1000th geocache! Now that may not seem exciting to you, but to anyone who is a serious geocacher this is a big deal. My 1000th... it had to be a good one.

So the planning began. We never travel anywhere without a plan. After doing a little bit of research (and seeing the massive Lake Trout that were hauled out of there) Tony decided we should rent a cabin on Echo Lake. Vernon is only about 45 minutes from Echo Lake so I started looking at all the caches there. I wanted my 1000th find to have all the qualities of what I love in a good cache....a hike, a view, a good hide and a special place. It seemed impossible but I found it in a cache called "Stones Throw." On top of all those things there were even some pictographs on the cliffs above it that we hadn't found yet. Perfect.
